Unlike older models, it features a built-in solar inverter. This means you get a cleaner, less cluttered installation that can handle a massive 20kW of solar input which is perfect for both new builds and retrofits. Its real superpower is scalability.
Starting with a generous 13.5kWh of capacity, you can cost-effectively grow your system by stacking up to three additional expansion units behind the main unit. This lets you ramp up to a huge 54kWh of storage to ensure your home can handle higher energy demands or extended blackouts without needing to buy multiple expensive standalone inverters.

Your Tesla Powerwall is fully integrated with the Tesla app, giving you real-time visibility into your home’s energy production and consumption. You can easily customise your system’s behaviour from anywhere, setting preferences to prioritise self-powered independence, maximum savings, or storm watch protection. At the heart of this system is the Backup Gateway, which manages your connection to the grid. It acts as the intelligent hub for metering and monitoring, ensuring that if a blackout occurs, your home safely disconnects from the grid and switches to backup power instantly. The Gateway also enables communication for up to four Powerwall units, ensuring seamless operation as your system grows.
Industry-Leading Warranty & VPP Revenue
Every Powerwall comes with a comprehensive 10-year warranty, during which Tesla guarantees the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity. Beyond just backup, your Powerwall can become an income-generating asset by joining a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) like Origin Loop or Amber Electric. While the previous Tesla Energy Plan that offered a 15-year warranty extension has ended, participating in these current VPP networks allows you to earn significant credits or cash payments by supporting the grid during peak times.
